A FRAMEWORK FOR COMMON BEHAVIOURS LIKE BITING, HITTING, RUNNING & DEFIANCE
My husband and I have had way too many conversations about how our son cried so much and lived a very distressful life.
This also impacted HOW I could show up for the children in my early learning program. All of my time was spent "managing" (really being reactive) and I wasn't able to support ALL THE CHILDREN how I truly envisioned.
Getting the right mindset and turning on my ECE researching superpower enabled me to FINALLY begin to understand what all the crying, hitting, throwing meant...and WHAT TO ACTUALLY DO!
Now whenever I encounter a behaviour that leaves me spinning I have a solid framework of perspectives I sift it through to untangle and make as much sense of it as I can.
Then...like any next step in research is the trial and error phase. I curate an approach to solve the behaviour by considering the intricacies I know about the child, their needs, child development and move forward with the child(ren) that keeps my strong image of the child intact and builds strength-based relationships with the child and parents.
